Perth Biodesign 2024 kicked-off with a bang at our blast-off bootcamp on Saturday 11 May.
The energy in the room was electric (if a little nervous) as the 15 participants connected and dove into learning about the Biodesign process and what to expect over the next seven months!
Since then, our Biodesigners have focussed on observation placements in hospitals and clinics around Perth, immersing themselves in a variety of healthcare settings, looking for interesting problems to solve, or as we say in Biodesign: unmet clinical needs.
We are so grateful to the amazing lead clinicians and their teams, who hosted our Biodesigners and generously shared their time and knowledge:
Simon Cavoli, Royal Perth Hospital
Dr Andrew Martin, Perth Children’s Hospital
Dr Ignatius Munjodzi, Joondalup Health Campus
Dr Jack Bourke, Fiona Stanley Fremantle Hospitals Group
Dr Jamie Tan, Joondalup Health Campus
Dr Ravi Sonawane, Rockingham General Hospital,
Dr David Janmaat Janmaat, Fiona Stanley Fremantle Hospitals Group
Dr Robert Swart, Fiona Stanley Fremantle Hospitals Group
Haylee Andrews & Wesley Gao, Rocky Bay Joondalup Hub
Dr Nina D/Vaz, Telethon Kids in Edgewater
Dr Sarah O’Sullivan & Dr Shrey Sharma, Genetic Health WA
And a big shout out to the managers and HR staff who assisted with the arrangements – we couldn’t do it without you!
So, what’s next? Click here to meet the 2024 participants and see their super mix of skills across engineering, clinical, research and business domains. We cannot wait to see what unmet clinical needs they find, and how they will invent exciting solutions to address them.
A huge thank you to all our supporters and funding partners:
